Clinton County Indian of Extraordinary Proportions

ohio clinton countyFind Bones of Indian

Towanda. State Road workers unearthed a human skeleton while at work near Ulster. While the bones were not all there, the thigh bones, spine, teeth, and skull could be found. It is evident the bones belonged to an Indian of extraordinary proportions and judging from the teeth experts say he must have been quite old when death overtook him. Buried with the skeleton were bits of crockery and glass, but there were no arrowheads, flint, and such articles as it was the custom for the Indians to bury with their dead. The skeleton was found about 24 feet below the surface just after one of the large grading machines had passed the spot. It will be donated to the Athens Museum.

The discovery of the human skeleton in Towanda is a remarkable finding, as it belongs to an Indian of extraordinary proportions. This word choice makes it evident that the skeleton was larger than what was typical, and the use of the word “giant” in the title of the article suggests that it was a significant discovery. The article mentions that the bones were not all there, but the important parts, such as the thigh bones, spine, teeth, and skull, were present. Interestingly, while bits of crockery and glass were found buried with the skeleton, there were no arrowheads, flint, and such articles, which was the custom for the Indians to bury with their dead. This finding raises several questions about the culture and practices of the indigenous people in the region.

The fact that the skeleton will be donated to the Athens Museum raises questions about who has the authority to excavate and preserve such artifacts. As a giant researcher, it is disappointing to see how artifacts like this have been looted and stolen from cultures for personal gain under the authority of the scientific community. It is important to consider the ethics of archaeology and to acknowledge the potential harm caused by removing these artifacts from their rightful owners. Nevertheless, the discovery of this skeleton is an exciting development in our understanding of the history and culture of the indigenous people in the region, and it is essential to preserve it for future generations.
