A Stone Giant

florida unknown

A Stone Giant in Florida.

A Stone Giant in Florida. While digging in the mound back of the garrison in search of Indian relics, a gentleman discovered an Indian statue, seemingly chiseled from solid granite by a masterly hand and free from any blemish, except for an indentation on the thigh caused by the pick. In close proximity, there were several arrowheads and other implements of Indian warfare. A stone jar was also found beneath the giant’s head. When opened, it revealed a calumet, a collection of brass jewelry, and a number of copper and Spanish gold coins that had turned black due to the corroding effects of time. This discovery has generated considerable excitement. The value of the gold coins, as far as could be determined, is approximately twenty-three hundred dollars—a substantial sum for these challenging times. (Ea.) Tribune.
