About A. D. 1830 there was dug up on the east bank of Somnes Sound, opposite Fernald’s Point, Mt. Desert, the jawbone of a man, which a scientist claims must have belonged to a person eight feet high. And some twenty years ago, while taking a geological survey of the island, a gentleman informed this scientist that in deepening his cellar a few years previous, he dug into graves and took out several skulls of giants. Our scientific friend believes that these were the relics of Norsemen who made Bar Harbor a summer resort before Christopher Columbus or the Vikings ever heard of it. – Lewiston Journal.
