Monroe County Large Man

Monroe County was formed in 1818 from portions of Orange County. It was named for James Monroe, fifth President of the United States, who was serving at the time the county was organized.

While exploring a cave near Bloomington yesterday, a party of young men found a skeleton of a large man in the rooms of the cave. The bones thought to be those of prehistoric man. In one of the rooms of the cave were found fingerprints on the wall and the name “John Byers 1870”. The owner of the land did not know the cave existed.
