MADISON, Wis., Sept. 26. — Passing westward some eighty miles from Madison to the Mississippi River, we found on the bluffs which intervene between the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers another extensive system of fortifications, consisting of numerous long mounds running parallel to each other and commanding an extensive view of the valleys and bottom lands for miles around.
